Oman's Majan Telecommunications has become the Middle East's first virtual network operator, MEED has reported. The company launched mobile services under its Renna brand on 3 December. Saudi Telecom is launching its first venture into another Middle Eastern country with its new Kuwaiti operation, Viva, which will start mobile phone services today, 3 December, reported MEED. Saudi Telecom paid $906m for its 26% stake in Viva, which will bring an end to the duopoly between Zain and Wataniya, two Kuwaiti companies that have used the Kuwaiti market as a base from which they have expanded into other Middle Eastern countries.
